My mother, Annette Thomley, married Robert Donald Somerset on this day in 1953 in the Pilgrim Home Missionary Baptist Church in Wicksburg, AL. Mom's twin sister June was her maid of honor. My grandmother, Myra Bell Draughon Thomley, made the waltz length bridal gown and two of the bridesmaids' dresses.
Mom and Dad honeymooned in Gatlinburg, then moved in with my Somerset grandparents in Troy, AL. My dad finished his sophomore year at Troy State and transferred to Auburn University where he and mom lived in a 30-foot Spartan mobile home in Cherry's Trailer Park, between Auburn and Opelika. Dad graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in August of 1956. He was hired by Vitro Services at Eglin Air Force Base in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and my sister Beverly was born the next year.

I concede my role as family historian to my sister Wendy. I don't think I ever heard that Mom and Dad honeymooned in Gatlinburg! Where have I been?
I don't know, Miss B. Herb and I chose Gatlinburg as our honeymoon destination because of it.
