Saturday Herb and Nathaniel spent the morning undoing Ike damage. Emma's bower had been pushed off its concrete piers, southward by about two feet.
First they chained it to the Excursion. Then they jacked it up.
When Herb gave the signal, Nathaniel threw the truck in reverse and gave it the gas. The little building did not hesitate. It leaped back in place, alarming me considerably. Scaring me more, Herb then inquired if Emma had anything in there that might break. I immediately pictured her china tea set smashed on the floor. Hurrying in, the only thing that I could see was that her iron fell off the ironing board and landed on her Regency gown underpinnings pattern. It didn't hurt it though. It's really thick paper.
They finished by re-setting her front steps so that they are level with the porch again. Best of all, they promised a sidewalk from the back of the house to the steps of the bower. Emma and I are counting the days!

Seeing your sweet husband's legs sticking out from under the bower made me think of the Wizard of Oz. I'm glad he - and the tea set - survived the move. I'm sure Em is one happy damsel.
Yes, his legs were sticking out in that one picture, but I forgot to mention that he and Nathaniel crawled completely under the bower to level it once it was back in place. Herb said they only saw two snakes under there.
