Way, Way Up There

St. Peter's Basilica, Rome

I'm not ready to do a post on Nathaniel and Emma's trip to Italy, but I did want to check in and let you know that they arrived home safely Saturday night. This picture of them was taken while they were standing outside at the top of the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Emma said there were at least five different kinds of stairways to get up there, and one was so narrow, it was like a corkscrew. It had no railing, just a rope dropping straight through the middle of the spiral staircase.

It was Sunday, and they made the climb after Mass. Emma understood it was going to be a day of rest, so she was wearing her regular church clothes: a dress and heels.

She is now sick on the couch with flu-like symptoms and fever. Nathaniel is at work, so if I got any of this information wrong, I'll try to correct it tomorrow.

I hope she feels better soon!

All these posts about Italy bring back nostalgic memories of when I was visiting there. Alas, too far in the past...

Thanks for the get well wishes for Emma, Matterhorn. I think she was already coming down with it when they landed in Houston. She did not look like herself and was even kind of cross-eyed. Exhaustion, I guess.

Hope your memories are good ones!

I am longing to hear more about the trip, but all in good time. I hope Emma feels better soon. Jet-lag cannot be helping her recovery. I know it would take me at least a day and a half to feel right again after coming home (thankfully going over to Europe never hit me as hard-maybe the adrenalin helped?). Hopefully she'll be up and about and back to Fiona before long.
